Manage DNS Name Pool

Here, you manage the DNS name pool.

The DNS name pool contains DNS names that are mapped to enable link translation. All mapped DNS names must be ordinary DNS names. All DNS names used from the pool are listed here. See the Link Translation section for further information.

To enable externally mapped DNS for a specific resource, select Reserved DNS Mapping as Link translation type on the Advanced tab for the applicable resource.

In previous releases, the first name in the DNS name pool was used as the Access Point DNS name. This is no longer the case, DNS name for Access Point now replaces the need to use the first name in the pool.

The DNS mapping for Access Point makes it possible to use multiple server certificates without adding additional listeners for the Access Point, see Server Name Indication. Note that it is possible to use certificates that have multiple DNS hostnames.

Entries in the DNS Name Pool must end with the same string as an entry in DNS Names for Access Point. If not, the pooled DNS name will never be used. For example, there is little use to add www1.company.com to the DNS Name Pool if you do not have a corresponding entry that ends with “.company.com” in DNS Name for Access Point.
